The Honeywell MK3780 Fusion MS3780 barcode reader is gray, comes with a USB cable and a stand, and can be used to scan and decode linear one-dimensional (1D) barcodes. A laser can produce a single line of light for targeted barcode scanning or 20 lines of light in an omnidirectional pattern for scanning barcodes at different angles. The barcode reader's USB cable can be plugged into the USB port of a computer or another host system (sold separately) to transmit barcode data. The stand adjusts to three positions and enables the barcode reader to be used in a fixed position. A motion sensor automatically switches the barcode reader to handheld mode when it is picked up. The barcode reader weighs 6.9 oz. and measures 2.9 x 2.6 x 7.4 inches (H x W x D). (H is height, the vertical distance from the lowest to highest point; W is width, the horizontal distance from left to right; D is depth, the horizontal distance from front to back.) It can withstand drops of up to 5' on a concrete floor.

Many barcode readers have a handle for handheld use and come with a stand or a charging cradle for fixed position applications, while others are designed for stationary use on a counter or another flat surface. Some portable readers are small enough to be carried in a pocket or attached to a lanyard.
